  • Overview

    Reporting into the Junior Merchandise you will help plan and trade the category with the purpose of maximising sales and profit whilst limiting risk. This is a great opportunity to join a fast growing business and planning team.

    What you'll be doing

    • Oversee intake, delivery and capacity of category product whilst remaining aware of impact on other areas
    • Challenges and supports decisions made within team based on evidence and analysis
    • Ensuring stock levels and prices are correct for promotional offers at least 1 week before promotion starts
    • Manages & challenges OTB on category, seeks best solution with buying and ensures necessary action is taken to reflect current trading
    • Work with buying to protect margins by instigating relevant stock movements to limit risk
    • Responsible for smooth running of critical path and life cycle of a product for category, working closely with buying and other functions to ensure department risk is minimised
    • Approves and confirms all products on VM guidelines for planned distribution for parrot stands, windows or any other in store promotion
    • Works with senior management to ensure in season trading lessons learnt are fed into the planning process
    • Management of key line cards or continuity sheets to maintain optimum stock levels
    • Ensure WSSI reflects current strategy and trade

    We would love to meet someone with

    • You will have relevant experience in an assistant buying role (doesn’t have to be the same product type) within a retail chain or equivalent.
    • Sportswear & lifestyle buying experience is very beneficial.
    • Experience of fully managing the critical path for your department
    • Commercial approach to business critical decisions
    • Be aware of competitors and help to try and keep Mountain Warehouse the best value on the high street
    • Confident approach to offer suggestions on the type and quantity of product for the department given the budgeted OTB
    • Good interpersonal skills – able to build and manage relationships with colleagues and suppliers, communication is key at all times
    • Strong IT skills most importantly in Excel or equivalent
    • Commercial and keeps up to date and aware of market trends, changes in demand
    • Able to fully understand customer needs and demands (e.g. price, quality, availability)
    • Strong time management skills and able to prioritise as this is a never-ending job and there will always be more to be done
